1. What is PGA?
PGA (polyglyclic acid) is a kind of biodegradable polymer. The polymer of PGA will be decomposed into carbon dioxide and water by microbe under the natural environment such as sunshine and moisture. As we all know, the matter is composed by molecules, and the different molecules possess different molecular weight. PGA can be classified into high molecular weight ones (molecular weight is more than 40,000~60,000) and middle & low molecular weight ones (molecular weight is from several hundred or thousand to 10,000 or 20,000). The high molecular weight PGA can be used to make suture, internal fixation materials of fractures and so on; while the middle and low molecular weight PGA can be used to produce inducing agent of micro-biological degradation, which can degraded the plastic. Such an important and practical role of PGA is first discovered by our research team, and now we are try to develop more application of PGA in other fields.

2. What’s about the international competitor?
In fact, there are few foreign PGA factories, mainly in Germany, Nederland and U.S., but all the factories produced high molecular weight PGA, which are used to make suture. The results of thorough novelty search indicated that the middle and low molecular weight PGA products are seldom produced. The middle and low molecular weight PGA produced by our company can’t be used to make suture, while used to produce biological degradation agent.

3. What’s about the market orientation?
The degradable plastic is a rapidly developing and novel industry with great market potential. The greatest advantage of PGA is its degradation, which is friendly to the environment. If the common plastic such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyester (PBT, PET) can be degraded by PGA, such a degradation type will be the most popular. And the plastic film products will be updated under the circumstances. Therefore, PGA possesses wide & bright market prospect and great market potential. In western countries, the present annual yield of biodegradable and photodegradable plastic breaks through 1,000,000 tons, which means vigorous demand of degradable plastic, and the demand increase at 30-50% annually. The new trend is that the export products adopt degradable plastic product as package material. Under such a condition, who catches the huge market opportunity, he will win more abnormal profit.

The added PGA can make the common plastic degrade; so many related products could be made. But the addition of PGA will make the price of plastic increase, so the products containing PGA should be used to produce high-grade products.

4. About the application field
As the base and nutrient source of the microbe, PGA can also be applied in biological enhanced biological treatment of wastewater. Through the initial comparison, the BOD5 of wastewater added PGA is 30% lower than the one without PGA. In addition, The PGA is acidic, and the pH of it is about 3, so it can be used as disinfectant. The middle and low molecular weight PGA can carry out such chemical reactions as interpolymerization due to its poly-end group, which can open new degradable chemical product market, such as biodegradable printing ink, biodegradable hydraulic oil, biodegradable washing agent and so on.
